The fluke is a saltwater mollusk that lives in the sandy sediments of the coast, at a shallow depth ranging from a few centimeters to 20 meters.

It feeds on plankton that it obtains from the water through filtration. Its habitat extends from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic coast of Europe, including the North Sea and the coasts of Portugal, Morocco and Spain, being very abundant in the Adriatic Sea. It has a length of about 25 mm.
