The flat belon oyster is a bivalve mollusk, with a variable shape, which tends to be rounded. Their shells are very uneven and have a rough surface. Although their length varies depending on the species, they usually measure between 6 and 10 centimeters.
Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea. In Galicia they have been cultivated for a long time in rafts and beaches. The oyster lives in sandy and rocky bottoms, in areas close to coasts, up to 80 meters deep. Its coloration can be gray, greenish or brownish, more or less tinged with brown or violet.
